“One Million Students, One Million Trees: Rooting Community Resilience.”
The Challenge: Moving Beyond Quantity to Guarantee Forest Survival
Soil degradation, desertification, and aggressive deforestation pose immediate threats to ecosystems, local livelihoods, and human security across Cameroon. Traditional mass-planting initiatives often fail due to a lack of maintenance. Today, planting trees is no longer enough. We must guarantee their long-term survival and place the custody of these new green spaces into the hands of the youth who will inherit the Earth.
Our Operational Framework: Scalable, Data-Driven Nature-Based Solutions
This highly practical component transforms schoolyards and community lands into micro-nurseries and protective local forests. We strictly avoid blind, unmonitored mass planting. Instead, our methodology deploys an integrated, scientific approach:
- Eco-Zonal Agroforestry Selection: Rigorously selecting specific tree species—including local fruit trees, deep-shade canopies, and urban alignment alignments—tailored to the distinct ecological zones of Cameroon’s 10 regions.
- Student-Led Institutional Nurseries: Establishing on-site school nurseries managed directly by students and trained environmental educators, embedding hands-on conservation into daily learning.
- Long-Term Monitoring Metrics: Implementing a comprehensive tracking system to scientifically assess plant growth, health, and survival rates over a three-year period.
Intended 3-Year Metrics & Sustainable Impact
- 1 million trees planted and strictly protected across the national territory within 3 years.
- Micro-climate restoration and improved local biodiversity within educational environments.
- Nutritional autonomy for participating schools through the sustainable harvesting of fruit-bearing species.
